Deputy Commissioner B. Susheela has passed a prohibition order preventing devotees from hurling live goats and sheep during the Mailaralingeshwar temple fair at Mailapur village in Yadgir taluk and district.
The annual fair of the Mailaralingeshwar temple will begin on Sunday. Lakhs of devotees across the State and also from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Maharashtra are expected to take part in the week-long fair.
Devotees would hurl goats and sheep on the moving palanquin of god Mailaralingeshwar with religious enthusiasm while going for a holy dip in the tank in the village. But the district administration prevented the practice of hurling animals by imposing a prohibitory order long ago, and the Deputy Commissioner has continued the order.
Ms. Suheela advised the devotees to hand over the animals to the check-posts established by the Animal Husbandry Department on the way leading to the temple. She directed all government departments, including Home, Animal Husbandry, Health, Revenue, Public Transport, and others, to make arrangements for devotees to ensure smooth and peaceful fair.
The DC banned sale of liquor around the temple and also in Mailapur, Arakera, and Ramsamudra village limits and directed to close shops selling liquor from midnight of January 12 to January 18.
