Nagapattinam to host district youth parliament competition to focus on women empowerment

A ‘District Youth Parliament,’ is scheduled to be held here on January 24 and 25. The even aims at fostering democratic awareness and youth engagement in governance. It will focus on women empowerment and feature college teams from across the district.

The event is organised by the district administration under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme in collaboration with Nehru Yuva Kendra.

Introduced in 1966 by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Youth Parliaments promote democratic education by simulating parliamentary proceedings, encouraging responsibility, critical thinking, and active citizenship.

Participants will be judged on their grasp of parliamentary procedure, debate quality, and adherence to protocols. The event aims at fostering discussions on gender equality and social justice, equipping students to address contemporary challenges.

Preparatory demo sessions across district colleges have provided students practical exposure, generating enthusiasm and preparing them for the event. The winners will receive ₹50,000, with plans for the top team to visit Delhi and witness parliamentary proceedings, offering valuable insights into India’s democracy.
