The Hosur police in Tamil Nadu arrested 10 persons under the Arms (Amendment) Act 2019, including private gunmen, a rowdy sheeter, and his associates, for allegedly entering the Hosur court complex with firearms on Thursday. The accused were remanded in judicial custody.
The rowdy sheeter, identified as Revanna who hails from Sulikunte near Sarjapur Road in Bengaluru, had arrived at the court with private gunmen to mark his attendance as per bail conditions. The gunmen were hired from a private security agency operating out of Karnataka. While three men were carrying guns licensed by the Karnataka government, two others owned firearms with an all-India licence.
The private gunmen were identified as Yaya from Ballari; Gave Mohan from Maharashtra; Krishna Kutti from Madikeri; Mahesha from Mandya, and Mahantesh from Mandya. Yaya is a retired CRPF personnel and Gave Mohan is a retired Army personnel. The police have also seized the guns.
The four associates of Revanna who were booked have been identified as Naveen Kumar, Puneeth, Shivanna, and Praveen Kumar.
Akshay Anil Wakhare, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Hosur in Krishnagiri district, told The Hindu that Revanna, who has rowdy sheets in three police stations in Bengaluru, turned up with gunmen inside the court complex at Hosur. He had neither informed the court nor the local police that he would be accompanied by the gunmen.
Of the five gunmen, three had licences only for Karnataka and in that case, one has to secure permission from the other State to carry the weapon. The protocol also dictates that the other two gunmen who can carry guns across India must inform the local court.
Mr. Wakhare said Revanna had secured bail in a murder case and according to the bail condition, he had to regularly mark his attendance in the court. He is accused of murdering a man identified as Revanth who also hails from Sulikunte. After allegedly killing Revanth, the body was dumped in Hosur and an FIR was registered at Baglur police station a few months ago.
