After a break, the Lingayat Panchamasali agitation for reservation under 2A category will resume with eighth phase of the agitation from Koodalasangama Panchamasali Peetha in Bagalkot district on January 14.
Addressing presspersons in Belagavi on Saturday, seer of Panchamasali Peetha, Basava Jaya Mrutynunjaya swami, said seeking reservation under 2A category and OBC status for all Lingayat sub-castes in the central list, they would resume the agitation. The seer said that those who were injured in the lathicharge by the police during the Panchamasali agitation before the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha in Belagavi last month would be honoured with ‘Lingayat Panchamasali Meesalati Veera’ title.
He said that in order to garner further public support, they would tour villages to sensitise the members of the community on the demand for 2A reservation. “We will go to the people, collect their opinion and involve them in the agitation to achieve our goal. We will also be launching ‘Panchamasali Pratijnya Kranti Abhiayana’ to encourage the members to take the pledge,” he said.
To a query on why leaders of the Panchamasali community were not extending the required support, the seer said they do not wish to comment on the leaders who cheated the community. The community members would teach them a lesson, he said.
