Inflow into Mettur dam increases


Mettur Dam’s water level stood at 110.37 feet on Saturday against its full capacity of 120 feet. Storage level stood at 78.93 TMC against its full capacity of 93.47 TMC. Inflow into the dam increased to 4,528 cusecs from Friday’s inflow of 3,976 cusecs. The amount of water discharged from the dam into the River Cauvery for delta irrigation continued at 1,000 cusecs. For canal irrigation, water discharge reduced to 500 cusecs from 600 cusecs. 

Eight-year-old girl dies of burn injuries in Salem

An eight-year-old girl died of burn injuries sustained while bursting crackers. V. Negasri (8), a resident of Ramamurthy Nagar, was bursting crackers at her aunt’s house on Thursday when her dress caught fire. She was taken to Mettur Government Hospital, where she was referred to Salem Government Hospital. She succumbed to her injuries. Mettur Police registered a case and are investigating.

Two new ATMs to be opened at Namakkal bus stand

Namakkal District Monitoring Officer M. Asia Mariam on Friday announced that two new ATM machines would soon start functioning at the New Bus Stand in the city. The monitoring officer undertook an inspection of the bus stand and instructed eateries operating in the stand to ensure hygienic practices and use only cloth bags. She also asked transport officials to operate buses at regular intervals without hindrance to the public.
