The Greater Chennai Police rescued several senior citizens stranded in waterlogged parts of the city. The police control room received 34 rain-related emergency calls, including about fallen trees at 28 locations.

The Vepery police rescued Samanthi, 60, who was found sick and abandoned at her house on Thana Street in the Vepery police station limits. They provided food and sent her to the Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for treatment. The police rescued Ammaji, 65, from her inundated house on Sajja Munusamy Street in the Washermenpet Police station limits and provided her shelter at a private home. Similarly, the K.K. Nagar police rescued senior citizens Srinivasan, 97, Vasantha, 87, and Shankar, 78, from their house on V.V. Giri Street and sent them to a relative’s house.

Further, the Kasimedu police rescued 17 persons from the inundated Singaravelan Pallam and accommodated them in a nearby Greater Chennai Corporation-run school.
