The two-day Kongu Wedding Food Festival and Exhibition began at the Codissia grounds on Saturday, as part of Coimbatore Vizha, showcasing a remarkable spread of over 450 dishes.
Organised by the Tamil Nadu Caterers’ Association, the event involved over 250 caterers preparing a wide variety of dishes, with primary focus on traditional Kongu cuisine. “The event highlights traditional food varieties alongside a range of dishes from other cuisines,” said S. Sathish, Treasurer of the Tamil Nadu Caterers’ Association.
As part of its inclusive initiatives, the festival served meals to over 100 individuals on the autism spectrum. Mr. Sathish also emphasised the event’s sustainability goals, stating, “The waste generated will be managed sustainably, with wet waste converted to compost and dry waste recycled, aiming to make this a zero-waste event.”
The festival earned recognition from the World Records Union for presenting the largest number of dishes on a single plate, totalling 323.
“Dishes alone do not create the wedding atmosphere; the large crowd truly brings the wedding experience to life,” said B. Vishwanathan, a visitor.
“The variety of dishes was impressive, especially for dessert lovers like me. My expectations were met and exceeded,” said J. Preethi, sharing her excitement.
The event also featured traditional performances such as Parai attam and Vallikummi. Wedding-related exhibitors set up stalls for visitors to explore services.
