The Joint Action Committee of the Scheduled Castes and Tribes communities in the district organised a massive protest in Srikakulam on Friday, opposing the sub-categorisation of SCs and STs.

The Association leaders including convener Teakwando Srinu, co-convener Kantha Venu, leaders Kaallepalli Ram Gopal, Palteti Pentarao, and others led the rally which was conducted from 7 road junction to the Collector’s office.

Addressing the participants at culmination point, Mr. Srinu urged the government to not implement the sub-categorisation as it would lead to disharmony among the Dalit communities. He asked the government to enhance the reservation facility in accordance with the increased population of SCs and STs.

Mr. Venu asked all 109 MPs of SCs and STs to oppose the sub-categorisation while raising the issue in the Parliament. Association leaders Bade Kamaraju, Rai Venugopal, Bonela Ramesh and others also spoke.

Later, they submitted a representation to Collector Swapnil Dinkar Pundkar, requesting him to convey their demands to the government.
