Lorry runs over woman sleeping in bus shelter in Kerala’s Palakkad


A woman was fatally crushed under a lorry while sleeping under a bus shelter at Chittur, near Palakkad, in Kerala in the early hours of Friday (November 29, 2024). The lorry carrying poultry lost control and ploughed into the bus shelter, killing the 40-year-old woman on the spot and injuring three others.

The police identified the deceased as Parvathi from BR Village, Hansur, Mysuru. Those who escaped with minor injuries were Krishnan, 70, his wife Savitri, 48, and their son Vinod, 25. Parvathi was Savitri’s elder sister’s daughter.

The police have arrested the lorry driver, and started an investigation. The body was later shifted to a hospital.

In a similar accident, five people, including two children, were killed when a log-laden lorry ran over them while they were asleep by the side of the road at Nattika near Kodungallur a few days ago.
