College student stabbed to death near Sivakasi


J. Veeramanickam, 19, was stabbed to death by the relative of a minor girl at Kannagi colony under Tiruthangal police station limits on Saturday.

Police said the accused, M. Anand, surrendered before the police. Veeramanickam, a first-year student of Government Arts and Science College in Sattur, was in love with the girl belonging to a different community. Anand, who the girl’s cousin, warned him not to continue with the affair.

However, since the student continued with the love affair, Anand invited him for talks on Saturday night. When Veeramanickam went to the spot near the veterinary hospital, Anand stabbed him with a knife.

The youth who sustained grievous injuries was taken to Government Hospital in Sivakasi for first aid. Later, he was shifted to Virudhunagar Government Medical College hospital, where he died of the injures on Sunday morning.

Tiruthangal police are investigating.
