Three persons, including a couple, have been arrested on Friday (December 27, 2024) in connection with the despatch of a dead body in a wooden box under Undi police station limits in West Godavari district. In a press conference held in Bhimavaram on Friday (December 27, 2024), West Godavari SP Adnan Nayeem Asmi said the accused hatched a plan to threaten the recipient by despatching a dead body of an unknown man to grab a piece of land.

The accused have been identified as Tirumala Sridhar Varma (37), his wife M. Revathi and Penmatsa Shusma. All are natives of West Godavari district.

On December 19, the accused have despatched the dead body of Barre Parlayya (47), who was allegedly strangled to death by the prime accused Sridhar Varma. Native of Undi Mandal, Parlayya was a worker employed by Sridhar Varma.

Madunuri Revathi, in support of her husband Sridhar Varma, had plotted to grab the piece of land owned by her sister S. Tulasi, by threatening her by despatching a dead body. “The parcel also contained a letter in which they demanded ₹1.3 crore in cash,” said SP Mr. Adnan Nayeem Asmi.

Tulasi was the recipient of the parcel in which the dead body was despatched by the accused. Another accused, Ms. Shushma, has been arrested for her role in packing the dead body and arranging the vehicle that delivered the dead body.

“We have registered a case and the investigation is on. The accused have been produced before a local court”, said SP Adnan Nayeem Asmi. EOM
