Over 8,000 police personnel deployed in city for Christmas


More than 8,000 police personnel have been deployed in the city ahead of Christmas celebrations on Wednesday. 

A senior official of the City Police said posse of police personnel, assisted by Home Guards, have been deployed to carry out extensive security checks at about 350 churches in and around the city. 

The police personnel have installed barricades in Mylapore Santhome Church, Besant Nagar Velankanni Church, Anthony Church in Parrys, and St. George (Cathedral) Church of Anna Salai and special vehicle checks would be carried out for regulating traffic and preventing any untoward incident. 

Also Wednesday being a public holiday, special arrangements have been made to monitor and carry out security operations using All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) to prevent the public from going into the sea and to provide advice to those visiting beaches.
