BJP seeks to dilute the Constitution, alleges CM Stalin

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Monday said since the BJP could not succeed in removing the word secularism from the Constitution, it has resorted to diluting the Constitution.

Participating in the Chiristmas celebrations by the Minorities Rights Wing of the DMK, he said that the BJP-led government at the Centre remained a threat to the rights and welfare of the minorities in the country. “I need not explain the atrocities unleashed against the minorities. The DMK will continue to protect the minorities from the onslaught,” he said.

Mr. Stalin said that there was no space for divisive forces in India and even though the BJP could not secure a majority in the 2024 Lok Sabha election, it had failed to learn any lesson. “The unity of the people and the coming together of the democratic forces has restrained the BJP. That is why the party seeks to create a unitary nation by implementing One Nation-One Election. The party’s plan is to create one country-one leader on the basis of one religion, one language and one culture. But patriotic Indians will oppose it,” he said.

Recalling the protests launched by the DMK against the Citizenship Amendment Act, he said the AIADMK, the main Opposition party in Tamil Nadu, voted in favor of the Act in Parliament.

He said the minorities should not fear the hatred spread by a few among the majority in the country. “The DMK will stand by the minorities and those who support secularism and communal amity,” he said.
