Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Pralhad Joshi has said that work to expand the Hubballi-Dharwad Bypass Road into a six-lane highway and a four-lane service road will be completed by June 2025.

Speaking to presspersons after reviewing the progress of the expansion work near Infosys campus in Hubballi on Monday, the Union Minister said that expansion and upgradation work is going on in full swing.

Mr. Joshi said that underpasses wherever necessary are being constructed along the bypass road. He, however, said that the railway overbridge on the bypass road and the flyover near Gabbur Cross will be completed by September 2025.

He said that the underpasses and service roads will facilitate free movement of residents along the bypass road. Residents who have built houses in the area adjoining the existing bypass road will be relocated. Already, they have been intimated about shifting and they will be given the requisite compensation, he added.

Welcome arch

The Union Minister said that an attractive welcome arch will be built to welcome visitors to Hubballi. This apart, officials of the National Highway Authority of India have been instructed to build an attractive junction with a water fountain at the entrance. They also have been instructed to work in coordination with the municipal officials to make the expansion work more beneficial.

Mr. Joshi was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Divya Prabhu G.R.J., Police Commissioner N. Shashikumar, Superintendent of Police Gopal Byakod, Deputy Commissioner of Police Raveesh C.R., Project Director of NHAI Bhuvaneshwar Kumar and other officials.

On February 28, 2022, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari laid the foundation stone for the expansion of the two-lane 31-km-long Hubballi-Dharwad Bypass Road into a 10-lane stretch.
