HYDERABAD
The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has asked the State government to inform the farming community of the ayacut under projects in the combined Mahabubnagar district in advance about the project-wise extent to which water is planned to be given for the second (rabi/yasangi) crop.
Party leader and former minister Singireddy Niranjan Reddy said in Wanaparthy on Monday that there is uncertainty over water for irrigation for the rabi season in the combined district since an announcement had come already about the inability to give water under Jurala project beyond Ramanpadu (Ookachetty Vagu project) despite record rains this water year.
The inability to give water for the second crop is nothing but inefficiency of the government, Mr. Reddy said speaking to newspersons. He criticised Minister for Excise and Tourism Jupally Krishna Rao for his talk that the BRS government did not give water to even one acre of ayacut under Kalwakurthy lift. Mr. Reddy reminded that it was Mr. Rao who had repeatedly said that only ₹12 crore was spent on the project from 1984 to 2004 and that the BRS government had completed it and given water.
Stating that only 4 tmc ft water a year was lifted from Kalwakurthy project till 2014, the BRS leader said from 2016, about 40 tmc ft water was lifted every year to give water to the planned ayacut and to fill tanks. Further, he stated that ayacut in Wanaparthy constituency was not contemplated under Kalwakurthy but it was he pursued with the government to get water. The BRS leader suggested the 12 Congress MLAs, one BRS and another BRS MLA who defected to Congress to pursue completion of Palamuru-Rangareddy works.
