Over 1,200 enthusiastic children from schools across Mangaluru, and professional and regular cyclists from various cycling clubs, participated in the Kross Mangalore Cyclothon 2024 organised by We R Cycling, a cycling club, in Mangaluru on Sunday.

WeRC arranged the cyclothon in association with KROSS Cycles, Ideal Ice Cream, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., Ka-sharp Fitness, Grahini Masala, Canara Bank and Taj Cycles. The rally was designed for schoolchildren and their parents, to spread awareness on road safety and responsible riding.

Flagging off the event in front of Mangala Stadium, Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police N. Yatish said he was happy to see a large number of kids focused on fitness, road awareness and safety. After the flagging off, the children were left out in two batches.

With the lead car from the Police Department, followed by a safety car and a barrage of senior cyclists in the front, the organisers managed the ride meticulously with the children following in an orderly fashion. The rally went through the city to conclude at the Amrita Vidyalayam in Boloor. A post-rally workout was organised by Kasharp Fitness.

Kross Bikes Zonal Sales Head R.S. Jamwal, Ideal Ice Cream Proprietor Mukund Kamath, IOCL Divisional Sales Head Yogesh Patidar, Kasharp Fitness’ Anand Prabhu, Grahini Masala’s Shubhanand and Shivanand and Taj Cycle’s S.M. Muthalib were present at the valedictory event. Mohammad Diyan and Ewan D’Souza won the lucky draw and rode home with Kross bicycles.

Gleona D’Souza, who represented Karnataka in Senior Women Cycling category in the National Cycling event, and Hardik Rai, who participated in the recently-concluded Deccan Cliffhanger endurance Race of 642 km from Pune to Goa, were felicitated. The participants were provided breakfast and Ideal Ice Cream.

WeRC president Sarvesh Samaga advised young cyclists to put more organised efforts in state and national events to secure podium finishes.
