Minister for Agriculture N. Cheluvarayaswamy on Saturday said that Bengaluru will host the International Millet Festival on January 23, 24 and 25. As a prelude to the mega event, Krishi Mela and Millet Mela will be organized in every district.
Speaking after inaugurating a Millet Walk (Siridhanya Nadige) organised by the Department of Agriculture, he described millets as the “healthiest foods” and said that the State government was encouraging the cultivation of millet crops.
At the Millet Festival in Bengaluru, experts of national and international repute, people in the millet industry, and the technologies that are supporting millet cultivation will come together and participate in discussions aimed at promoting millet on a large scale.
The Minister urged the farmers to participate in discussions and adopt the suggestions from the experts for cultivating healthy foods in their lands.
Meanwhile, Mandya will be hosting the Millet Mela next month, the Minister said. He urged the people to support the initiatives of the department.
Describing the ongoing 87th Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelana as a “historic” event and Mandya had not organised such a grand programme in the recent past, he said the people have given their feedback and expressed happiness over the way the government took steps in organising a grand sammelana, with visitors from different parts of the State thronging the literary meet. The Millet Walk that began from the deputy commissioner’s office in Mandya culminated at the venue of the meet.
