The incessant rainfall continued in Visakhapatnam on Saturday (December 21, 2024) as the Depression over west central Bay of Bengal off north Andhra Pradesh coast has been active and moved east-northeastwards with the speed of 7 kmph during past six hours as on 5.30 a.m. on Saturday (December 21, 2024.)
In Visakhapatnam, 5 mm of rainfall was received near Kailasagiri from 8.31 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday (December 21, 2024), while Srikakulam district’s Gara received the State’s highest rainfall of 31.75 mm.
The system was located about 440 km south-southeast of Visakhapatnam and 600 km south-southwest of Gopalpur (Odisha), according to latest weather bulletin.
The system is likely to move slowly east-northeastwards maintaining its intensity as a depression for next 12 hours and weaken gradually thereafter over the Sea.
Under the influence of the continuous rainfall activity and rough sea conditions, the coastal stretches across the State at some places were eroded.

In Visakhapatnam, some coconut trees near INS Kursura submarine museum were uprooted. The water came came close to the plantation. The trees were planted to protect the beach erosion and to provide recreation to the beachgoers a few years ago by the authorities with the sponsorship of a private resort.
Meteorologists and oceanography authorities said, “It is quite common phenomenon during the abnormal weather conditions over the sea like the low pressures, depressions or cyclones. But, the authorities must restrict public activities on the shore where chances are high for erosion due to geographical conditions.”
